It Was Just One Summer...
Years ago, when our kids were still in elementary school, my wife and I did something bold: we sent them to sleepaway camp for the entire month of June. Friends and family didn’t hold back.
Don’t you miss them?"
"What do you do while they’re gone?"
"Isn’t that... selfish?"
My answer?
“It’s a glorious month of Bourbon & Boxers. Knock before you come over.”
What started as a tongue-in-cheek response became a tradition. Every June, we’d raise a custom flag at our front door to signal the start of Camp Season. The texts would roll in, neighbors would wink, and the evenings? Unmatched. Grilled dinners. Good bourbon. Lazy mornings. Real conversations. A taste of who we were before parenthood took over. It became a lifestyle. A short one, sure — but a sacred one.
